Abstract: Treegens is growing the Regen movement & building the most rewarding & transparent tree planting tech. I (Jimi) have already broken the world record for most trees planted twice and plan to do so a third time with a Guinness World Records Adjudicator on site. My goal is 30,000 mangroves trees planted in 24 hours in Pha Nga, Thailand. This will not only promote the ReFi / public goods ecosystem globally, it will help us spark a movement of regenerators planting trees around the world & make a tangible impact on the ground.

How does it support Public Goods?

This record attempt supports public goods by enhancing ecosystem services such as carbon sequestration, biodiversity, and coastal protection. The widespread benefits of this mangrove restoration effort underscore the project’s contribution to the global commons, promoting environmental sustainability and resilience. I also want to promote Public Nouns in a variety of ways listed below.

How is it non-excludable?

Mangrove tree planting is non-excludable because the benefits derived from these trees are for everyone & not a select few. From carbon sequestration to biodiversity, protection from coastal erosion, tsunamis, even filtering the water & helping nearby coral reefs - the benefits are far reaching to the public.

How is it non-rivalrous?

Mangrove tree planting is non-rivalrous because many people can simultaneously enjoy their benefits & one person enjoying these benefits does not prevent another from doing so. For example, when one person benefits from the role of mangroves in preventing climate change, this does not prevent other people nor animals from also benefiting from the resultant biodiversity support.

Why do we need funding?

• Guinness World Records will charge us 8,100 GBP + travel expenses for the adjudicator to come and authenticate the record on site & for us to licence their brand for content and media.
• We will need to hire talented videographers because Guinness World Records assured us they would post short form clips on all their socials if the content is high enough quality. These videos can get 10M+ views
• Will hire a team of 10-15 people to help collect mangrove propagules, pass them to me in shifts, & to keep tally of the trees with the adjudicator

Impact from Event:

• 30,000 mangrove trees planted in Phuket, Thailand under the official Guinness World Records methodology
• If Jimi plants less than 30,000 propagules during his GWR attempt, the rest will be planted on a separate day.
• Any mangrove trees which do not survive the initial plant will also be replanted.

Why now?

• Making this tree planting world record Guinness Official is the first step towards locking in the massive partnerships necessary to break the next world record of most trees planted in a day set by Ethiopia - 560M.
• Doing this tree planting world record on Earth Day will help us garner more media publicity

Feedback Loop: Every tree will not only be certified by an official Guinness World Record adjudicator & many third party tree planting experts, our AI tree counting tool will also be used to track how many have been planted & survival rates. We will also do detailed reporting on the event, tree planting outcomes & the local media will additionally document the outcomes. All of these methods will ensure accountability and ongoing engagement with our supporters and the broader community.
