We propose Smart Grants – an innovative application of Smart Invoice’s on-chain milestone-based escrow invoicing system https://smartinvoice.xyz/ that is optimized explicitly for the grant-funding and delivery process.

Smart Grants intends to revolutionize the grant-giving ecosystem by linking the release of grant funds directly to the completion of project deliverables. It ensures secure, efficient, and fraud-resistant grant project management, making the public grant allocation process more accountable and reliable in the Web3 ecosystem and ensuring grant funds are utilized to their maximum potential.

How does this initiative promote Public Goods? Smart Grants is both a public good and serves to bolster public goods.

Smart Grants democratizes access to secure, reliable, and efficient grant management solutions. No initial costs are associated with Smart Grants, which allows any individual or organization to use this trustless system for grant allocation and deliverable tracking.

Grant-awarding organizations often lack cohesive and reliable systems for tracking deliverables associated with grant funds. Smart Grants provides an integrated approach for these organizations to efficiently fund and incentivize deliverables for public good grants and manage those milestone releases all from within one platform.

What makes it non-excludable? As an open-source tool, Smart Grants is available to anyone with an internet connection and a wallet. Any individual or entity can utilize our services without restrictions. This inclusivity allows us to extend the benefits of secure on-chain grant management to a broad range of grant-giving organizations and recipients.

What makes it non-rivalrous? The utility of Smart Grants does not diminish with increased usage. On the contrary, as more users engage, it forms a robust and dynamic network. Hence, it exemplifies non-rivalry: one user’s consumption of the service does not detract from others’ ability to use it.

Why does it need funding right now? While Smart Invoice is currently functional and serving a growing user base, Smart Grants does not currently exist. Our proposal is to fork Smart Invoice and adapt the dApp and protocol for the needs of Smart Grants.

These funds will go towards a Smart Grants re-design, optimizing the record-keeping UX flow for both grantors and grantees, an integrated dashboard for grant organizations to view releases and manage deliverables, and a PR effort to contact organizations who would benefit from smart grants.

Impact/Deliverables:

With the successful procurement of the grant, we anticipate: Re-design for Smart Grants Project dashboard so grant-givers can manage several projects simultaneously and release milestones from an integrated dashboard. Each grant giving organization can have their own branded portal. Grant recipients can upload proof of deliverables and request release of the milestone through the platform. This action will generate a notification for milestone release to the grant-giving organization
