Abstract

Kokonut Network is a decentralized ecosystem for building and deploying syntropic agroforestry farms using Web3 infrastructure. Its open-source framework allows communities to design farms optimized for diverse funding sources (grants, DAOs, cooperatives, investors) and impact outcomes (public goods, financial returns, or blended). Currently operating 2 live farms and developing 4 more across the Dominican Republic, Kokonut represents a powerful example of Web3 applied to real-world ecological and economic transformation.

The development of this project helps showcase how viable and impactful it is to leverage Syntropic Farms as Tools to achieve diverse outcomes. The main objective of this proposal isn’t only to receive grant funding from Public Nouns, it is to challenge the status quo and demonstrate that grant funding can also be used to satisfy the grantor needs and wants; for this scenario Public Nouns needs Sustainable Funding and wants to fund Impactful Public Goods Proposals.

Kokonut Adelphi Farm Specific Objectives

• Regenerate soil through the application of biochar, remineralization, and ground cover to improve fertility and reduce erosion.
• Cultivate a diverse agroecological production with short, medium, and long-cycle crops, including strategic fruit and forest species.
• Conserve native and endangered species by establishing a specialized nursery for the propagation and reintroduction of native flora.
• Implement a sustainable animal production system, featuring free-range laying hens and the use of byproducts for fertilization.
• Train farmers and local communities in agroecological and sustainable practices, fostering environmental education and the adoption of best practices.
• Expand the project by acquiring additional land for the conservation of flora and fauna, promoting long-term sustainability.

Kokonut Adelphi Financial Value Flywheel; using the Pareto Principle

• The profits derived from operating the farm will be distributed as follow:**
• 40% to Land Owners for usage of land, working on farm management and daily activities .
• 40% to Public Goods via a Splits Contract deployed on Ethereum Mainnet with Updatable Weights Every 12 Months based on Retrospective Impact Assessment.
  • The control of the contract will be a 5/7 Multi-sig with 3 Community Signers elected via Open Nominations using Conviction Voting, 3 Kokonut Signers and 1 Neutral Member external to the organizations that are beneficiaries of the Split.
  • The initial set of Public Goods Organization being proposed for the Splits Contract are Public Nouns DAO, GREEN (Focused on Ecological Positive Initiatives), and Kokonut Foundation (Focused on Local Impact in the Dominican Republic) as outlined in the Diagram Flywheel.
  • The exact criteria for new organizations to be added to the Splits Contract is presenting your case by explaining how your organization initiatives are non-rivalrous and non-excludable. These proposal will be posted in the Kokonut Green Garden and a template will be fleshed out by the Kokonut Green Garden Council.

This initiative directly support Public Goods by allocating 40% of the profits derived from the Operations of the Farm and every revenue stream (vegetable harvest, fertilizers production and impact tokenization), to a Splits Contract.

This proposal directly improves the Kokonut Framework and fosters its community adoption, as an open-source, fork-able & freely available tool. It can be used by anyone around the world to design, develop and scale Community-owned Ecological-positive Syntropic Farms.

How is it non-rivalrous?

Kokonut Adelphi isn’t rivalrous because everything is open source and the game plan is repeatable. It is non-rivalrous because one farm using the framework does not prevent any other farm from using the framework. Kokonut Adelphi is a sustainable farm that will increase the organic food supply in the region and nearby areas by deploying a Syntropic Ecosystem that will produce new net positive value.

This proposal directly advocates for and raises awareness about Public Goods Funding. It helps improve the Kokonut Framework, an OSS Tool that can be leveraged by stakeholders (Communities, Organizations, DAOs, and Institutions) to design, maintain, and scale Outcomes-based Ecological-Friendly Assets.

Kokonut Adelphi is the first Outcomes-based farm within our network that is being optimized for Public Goods and Return on Impact Goals.

Kokonut Adelphi will allocate 40% of its profits toward local and global public goods by leveraging Splits to distribute value to organizations nominated via Kokonut Green Gardens using conviction voting.

Every year we will assess the impact of these contributions and modify the weights being allocated or propose new organizations via Kokonut Green Gardens in an open nomination process to be added to the Splits Contract via conviction voting.

Secured by the Kokonut Framework, Kokonut Adelphi will be able to fund public goods sustainably for many years locally and globally; this approach is building on the idea “How to Regenerate Your Treasury with Trees”, which we proposed back in 2022 to MetaCartel Grants in a forum post. Fast-forward to today, thanks to our transition to Syntropic Farming we have reduced time to cash flow and increased value output while decreasing costs, as our methodology doesn’t need 4 years of runaway and instead can unlock cash flow within 6 months.

Our Proposal is optimized FOR two types of ROI = Return On Investment & Return on Impact.
