Add Support for Celo
Proposal Summary
Trust Wallet is looking to add support for Celo, is global payments infrastructure that makes financial tools accessible to anyone with a mobile phone.
What is Celo?
Celo is an open-sourced Proof-of-Stake (PoS) blockchain designed to support stablecoins and tokenized assets with an algorithmic reserve-backed stability mechanism. The Celo Alliance is a non-profit organization whose mission is to facilitate financial inclusion by developing a blockchain-based financial ecosystem.
The Celo platform utilizes Celo Gold (CGLD), its native token, for the following:
- fees for sending assets on the network
- manage the price stability of the Celo Dollar (cUSD)
- propose and vote on protocol changes
- join the network as a validator
CGLD is designed to make it easy for anyone with a smartphone to send, receive, and store stablecoins without needing a crypto wallet.
Benefit to Trust Wallet
Celo is a blockchain aimed to bring crypto right to your phone. This completely mirrors the goals of the Trust Wallet app which is to “make crypto more accessible”. It also paves the way to decentralized applications that allow every Trust Wallet user to access the possibilities of decentralized finance (DeFi) and trustless transactions on the Celo network.
