Passport By Contributor Compensation

TL;DR Passport By Orange(PBO) is a potential Orange Public Good to support membership NFTs. This proposal is to get 3 month funding for the project to pay USDC upfront to a committed part-time team, and reward with $ORANGE for achieving timeline(speed) & customer milestones.

Description Passport by Orange is a project that draws on our insight that NFTs can provide membership utility (similar to the GEM). You can learn more here, and check out the team’s progress on discord.

Taking learnings from previous projects and builder feedback, we are doing a few things differently -

Starting with strong PM ownership: Arian for Product and Talking to Users; Ned+Nic for technical PM(example); JP+Cryptpal to unblock, address dao admin stuff(like this proposal), work on budget, partnerships etc. Clear contributor participation & ownership: Contributors commit 15-20 hours/week and get paid base USDC (in line with Compensation 1.0) This is a different experiment from DAO’s previous approach of relying on member downtime. Team has 1 backend, 1 contract, and 1 frontend engineer, and 1 designer with a buffer for 2 more engineers. Rewarding Speed: While folks get baseline in USDC, there are team rewards for hitting aggressive milestones. This is a step in the direction of learning what levers we have to build fast within the DAO. Reward KPI goals aggressively: Without customer adoption, the DAOs ideas will not go really far. We want to experiment with aggressive customer acquisition rewards. There is a bounty for onboarding each customer (community manager) that is split with the whole team. Focusing on Succeeding/ Failing Fast: The DAO shouldn’t be a graveyard of half complete project. The team is dedicated to either making something of this project that’s valuable to the ecosystem or recognizing it’s not the right project, pivoting based on feedback and killing it if there isn’t PMF. All the factors above are designed to help with this. The team is resourced for 3-mo, at the end of which, a new proposal with learnings/KPIs would be shared to determine if the project is complete as is(open to the world to use), deserves continued investment or is explicitly sunsetted.

Benefits PBO is designed for community memberships from the ground up (vs trading) and has potential of accelerating web3 adoption drastically by giving simple yet powerful tools to community owners. We know this, because we are our first users (for LP NFTs, and PortCo NFTs).

The project is well-scoped, and mid-sized - a great way to start building our muscle of launching public goods. And, If successful, it will further solidify our position in web3 as leaders and driver of innovation, leading to -

Awareness that Orange is home for builders. Attracting top founders for Orange Fund, and hackers to the Dao. High exposure to effort ratio - expected to be used by a LOT of communities. Demonstration of another great way of L1/L2 partnerships and showcases the asymmetric value YC founders can create for chains - creating a compelling reason for them to work with us.
