tl;dr

Retroactively fund infrastructure and support costs for Nouns iOS Widgets and finance future infra costs and improvements with 0.69 ETH.

Introduction

In 2022, to help nouners stay on top of auctions and voting, I built Nouns Widgets, iOS widgets that became a widely loved tool that many installed and used on their phones! With the success within Nouns DAO, I later expanded support to Lil Nouns DAO and built a full mobile app for Builder DAOs, with widgets remaining the main value driver.

Fast forward to 2025: the widgets are still actively used, with auction and governance data requests coming in every hour. Due to iOS privacy limitations, I can’t track exact user or widget installation numbers, but based on request patterns I estimate 100-200 active widgets currently installed.

With this proposal I’m requesting:

• Retroactive funding to cover the last ~2 years of backend, domain, and support/dev costs.
• Funding to cover infrastructure and ongoing support for the next 3 years, ensuring the widgets keep running smoothly for all nouners.
• Development hours to introduce two new widgets and update an existing one.

2022 - Now (Past Work)

Initial widget development was funded through several Prop House rounds (2–3 rounds, unfortunately past data is no longer available to verify). With that funding I shipped:

• Small Auction widget
• Medium Auction & Governance widget
• Medium and Big Governance widgets
• Lock Screen widget

In 2024, after the official Nouns mobile app widget stopped updating, I created the Art widget so everyone could still enjoy a Noun of the day on their phone.

Throughout this period, I’ve kept all widgets running, fixing bugs whenever newly minted nouns with special traits broke rendering, and personally covering all backend infrastructure, domain, and hosting costs for both the data backend and the installation website (nounswidgets.wtf).

Now - 2028 (Future Work)

With the next updates I plan to:

1. Polish existing widgets and bring them up to date with the latest iOS versions (e.g. proper support for tinted and transparent styles).

2. Introduce two brand-new widgets. A Small Governance widget (perfect for users who want to stay updated on proposals but don’t want to allocate space for the Medium sized widget) and a Lock Screen Proposals widget (a clean, compact display of active proposals right above the clock on your lock screen).

   

3. Upgrade the Auction and Governance widgets to support Big size with more proposals and richer proposal information in Medium sized widget when space allows.

   

4. This proposal will also cover ongoing backend, domain, and development costs that arise to keep everything running smoothly(art updates, iOS widget API changes, Nouns contract updates, etc.) until the end of 2028.

Funding Requested

0.69 ETH.

Funding breakdown:

• ~30% - Retro funding for 2024–2025 (infra, support, and adding the Art widget).
• ~40% - 3 years of infrastructure and support costs (2026–2028).
• ~30% - Development of the new Small Governance and Lock Screen Proposals widgets + updates to Auction and Governance widgets + small updates of existing widgets.

Timeline

• New widget + all updates delivered within 4 weeks of funding (Small Governance and Lock Screen ready in ~2 weeks).
• Ongoing development support and maintenance will continue until the end of 2028.
