TL;DR

Basepaint is a documentary about pixel artists worldwide who have been collaboratively creating a piece of art online and onchain every day for the past year and a half.

The film will explore their personal lives, how Basepaint has transformed them, and how they are part of a growing movement that has the potential to continue indefinitely.

This proposal seeks $19,000 USDC from Nouns to co-sponsor the film alongside Base, Decentralized Pictures (Co-founded by Roman Coppola, with Sofia Coppola on the board, bringing filmmaking expertise and industry credibility), and Pet3rPan.

The documentary will expose Nouns to a new audience, with distribution through Base, Decentralized Pictures, potential streaming platform deals, global film festival submissions, and presentations at crypto, art and film conferences.

🎬 THE PLAN

Our production will involve over 20 in-depth online interviews with Basepaint artists. We will uncover the most impactful and surprising stories – those where Basepaint has genuinely transformed an artist’s life. Following these interviews, local film crews will capture B-roll and drone footage to visually enrich the narrative.

The documentary will take viewers on a journey, starting with the fundamental concept of a pixel and progressing to an intimate look at the artists’ daily routines within the Basepaint ecosystem. This will be achieved through a blend of graphics, animations, and live-action footage.

Our primary distribution focus will be on the Base ecosystem and Decentralized Pictures. We will also submit the documentary to film festivals, targeting 40 of the best-rated festivals globally.

We will leverage Base’s extensive reach through their website, newsletter, and social channels to ensure maximum visibility within the community.

The film will also be coined on Zora.

Our ambitious goal is to inspire a significant increase in participation, aiming to 100x the number of artists and 1000x the number of collectors on Basepaint.

Through this focused distribution and the compelling nature of the story, we believe we will expose Nouns to a very cool new audience within the Base ecosystem and beyond, potentially onboarding new members to the Nouns community.

We will also explore the potential to reach a streaming platform, further amplifying the film’s reach and exposure for our sponsors.

Following a Nouns Camp call and taking some feedback onboard, we will actively apply for speech and presentation opportunities at conferences around the world – specifically targeting crypto, art and film conferences – to discuss the groundbreaking concept of documentaries funded by Nouns and its partners.

Community growth: By spotlighting pixel artists, the film cultivates new contributors and potential collectors for Nouns.

Broader Exposure: Participation in film festivals and targeted conference presentations will introduce the Basepaint story, and its sponsors (including Nouns), to diverse global audiences in both the traditional film and art world and the wider crypto space.
The film will be presented by the 3 main sponsors. We will feature Nouns as a co-presenter alongside Base and Decentralized Pictures in opening credits, promotional art, festival materials and conferences.
