Who controls culture? A nouns-powered satirical theatre production celebrating Molière
Who controls culture? A nouns-powered satirical theatre production celebrating Molière
🧩 Background and Challenge
We are 2Lång, a beloved theatre in Gothenburg Sweden, with over 15,000 visitors annually. We make satirical, comedic productions and have built a strong, engaged community on-stage and online, with an additional 10,000 followers on social media.
Challenge Despite our popularity and positive influence, we’ve never received public funding. Time and again, we’ve been met with feedback like: Someone has to leave our list for us to support new initiatives." or “Just wasn’t want we were after this year, try again next year”… For 13 years!
- The culture funding grant is a critical “make or break” for most theatres, yet a small cultural elite decides on the entire regions funding, in a process that lacks transparency.
- The outdated and unfair approach limits cultural diversity. We had enough and want to show the world that it’s time for a new approach.
🧠 Idea Overview
To produce The Complete Works of Molière – Nouns Edition
🎥This 2-min video explain our idea best:
👉👉 https://www.youtube.com/shorts/h5cvlkVQHGo 👈👈 👈
A rule-breaking play where classical theatre merges with meme culture and DAO-funded storytelling, blending fiction with reality and stitching together the past and the present.
This meta-performance has multiple layers:
- It’s a comic portrait of Molière, the 17th-century satire master, famous for exposing hypocrisy in society and poking the French elite.
- At the same time, it tells the true story of our theatre, denied public funding and saved by a decentralized community.
- It will also showcase the power of community-driven funding, made real by Nouns community.
We promise a chaotic, funny, and completely unique show that will also leave the audience with a bigger question: “Who controls culture?” The perfect way to celebrate Molière’s legacy of critique and reform!
🎯 Goal
- Live performances for 7,000 people over 3 years (based on data from our past shows)
- Social media campaign to challenge funding models Reach 15,000 people through or own social media channels. Promoting Nouns as an alternative to traditional cultural funding.
- Broaden reach through media and public engagement Engage 10,000 people via news-& radio appearances, public events, and business/community interactions.
🛠 Team
Lead by: Kerstin Team: Magnus, Maja, Tobias and Johan. Production will feature the same producer and cast from our most recent show, brining continuity, chemistry and proven talent to the stage.
📅 Funding and Execution
What Is Our Ask?: We’re seeking $40,000 to cover core production costs: scriptwriting, stage design, actor- & producer salaries, marketing, costumes, and travel. Cost beyond this will be covered by the theatre.
Why Will This Work? We’re an experienced, established theatre with a track record of bold, successful productions. This show builds on our hit “Complete Works of William Shakespeare”, seen by over 5,000 people locally and now touring Sweden to audience acclaim. Production will feature the same producer and cast from our most recent show, bringing continuity, chemistry, and proven talent to the stage. Our community is ready and eager for what’s next.
Timeline:

🧠 Value for Nouns Community?
We’re confident this show will be something very special, but we’re also committed to bringing value back to the Nouns community. We anticipate strong interest both on and off stage, generating great exposure for the Nouns community over a long period. We think we could bring uptp 850 new members on discord and 265 new active members.
