Short Summary
Indonesia is facing a plastic waste crisis, and kids hold the key to driving change.
With support from Nouns, we aim to more than double our capacity, upgrade our facilities, and provide discounted educational field trips for local schools in Bali —reaching at least 250 students every month.
Who is

r•Plastic is a Bali-based company that transforms old, used plastic into amazing new products! Instead of letting plastic pollute the environment, we recycle it—giving it a second life as items like surfboard racks, furniture, and even parts for e-motorbikes.
We also inspire the next generation by hosting factory tours where kids can see the recycling process in action and create their own plastic art.
Our mission is simple: to help the planet by recycling plastic and teaching everyone, especially kids, the importance of caring for the Earth.

Ripple effect from field trips

Our interactive field trips are sparking impactful eco-conscious habits in students, parents, and schools alike. Here are a few examples:
- School Recycling Programs: Several schools launched collection points for bottle caps and flip-flops. They now question there waste management behaviour.
- Student Projects: An 10yr old student designed and made a pencil box with us for a school project. He is testing it and wants make them for the whole class.
- Parent & Community Projects:
- A students mother began creating sensory tables from recycled plastic.
- Another students mother is making meditation stools with us.
- A students father is crafting recycled plastic flower pots.
- Student Activism:
- Three students interviewed our founder for there project after a school trip. There project made it to the finals for an international sustainibility contest.
- A student is advocated for segregated waste collection at their school board and its now implemented.
- Several students started collecings flip-flops whenever they see them on the beach.
- Household Changes:
- Parents report that their children now encourage them to segregate waste at home.
These field trips are creating a wave of sustainability-focused changes, inspiring projects and habits that spread beyond the classroom. With the project’s expansion, we aim to nurture even more of these community-wide ripples toward a sustainable future.
Who am I anyway?

I’m Martijn Huizing, founder of r•Plastic and a passionate advocate for sustainability. My journey into recycling began in an unexpected place: the oil industry, where I spent over 15 years drilling for the very material that forms plastic—oil. Now, in what feels like karmic balance, I’m dedicated to transforming plastic waste into something valuable.
A few years ago, my wife and I moved from the Netherlands to Bali with our three boys, seeking a more balanced lifestyle. While captivated by Bali’s beauty, we were confronted with the reality of plastic pollution. This inspired me to start r•Plastic, a company recycling plastic waste into useful products while educating the next generation about sustainability.
Through hands-on field trips and creative recycling projects, I aim to inspire people—especially kids—to see waste as a resource and become changemakers. It’s rewarding to witness the ripple effects of our work and exciting to expand our impact, making sustainable practices accessible to everyone.

How I came to Nouns: A strange sequence of events
We’ve been living in Bali for four years, while my parents remain in the Netherlands. Recently, my mom’s friend’s son, Jasper, visited Bali and reached out to see my factory. We hit it off, and he expressed interest in supporting my business—though we weren’t sure how.
Later, during his trip across Bali, Jasper found himself at a restaurant where he asked to sit next to a stranger. As fate would have it, that stranger turned out to be Coralorca, a member of the Nouns community. They struck up a conversation, and Jasper shared my work in recycling plastic. Just two days later, Coralorca reached out to me, and here we are, collaborating on a Nouns proposal!
