About Curling

Brief History

• Curling started in the lowlands of Scotland in the 1500’s on a body of water known as the Firth of Clyde.

• A tiny island in Clyde called Ailsa Craig is where a majority of all of bouncy granite for curling stones is mined.

• There are 1.5 million curlers worldwide.

Curling Culture

• Contrary to popular belief, curling a far harder and way more strategic than just “shuffleboard on ice".

• The curl of the stone and the speed of the ice are ever changing during a game and over time and the teams who communicate the best and execute on strategy generally win.

• “Broomstacking” is the most important aspect of curling and it happens after the two hour game ends. Broomstacking is where both teams sit around a table and buy each other drinks and laugh and joke about the game, each other and life in general.

Chicago Curling Club Platinum Sponsorship '24/'25 Season

** • Goal: **Give a strong Nouns presence to the Curling rink for both players and online spectators.

• Scoreboard Sponsorship with a Nouns branded 4 by 7 foot banner over the scoreboard.

• In-Ice Sponsorship: Full Nouns branding in the “House” with a 12 foot diameter design where the action takes place. This is visible to all on the ice, in the building and online streaming.

• Wall Banner Sponsorship: Another 5’ x 3’ banner hang on the wall.

• Logo and link on the Chicago Curling Club website with a link to nouns.wtf

• Sponsorship acknowledgement at all bonspiels (tournaments) where curlers from all over the United States and Canada come.

• (Optional) Nouns Learn 2 Curl: One (3) hour experience for up to 16 guests led by one of our USCA Certified Curling Instructors and Blutoshi. Participants will learn how to: slide on a slider across ice, push out of the hack, deliver a 42 lb. curling stone across the sheet and sweep the ice with a curling broom. The experience will also include a (2) end game and (2) alcoholic beverages per adult.

The Longer Term Vision

Like Nouns, once people really get into Curling, it goes from a hobby to a passion to an obsession to a complete lifestyle. Curlers pride themselves on being active and competing AND having fun by celebrating life and our quirky sport.

Once Noun #809 was born, the connection between Nouns and Curling was forever minted. It’s a natural match on so many levels. My goal is to take baby steps by generating awareness for Nouns at the Chicago Curling Club and learn from the feedback and interaction it gets and then move it to higher levels within the curling community so Nouns is just a part of the culture.

Many watch Curling in the Winter Olympics which happens next in February of 2026, about 18 months away. Being a smaller, quirky sport that everyone seems to love at the Winter Olympics, sponsorships of this sport are more more economical yet far reaching than most sports and its ethos is very complimentary with furthering the nouns ecosystem.

About the Proposer

Blutoshi was in Austin for the premiere of Shark, Pickle, Cone and was hugely inspired by the movie and the people he met. @Blutoshi has been in crypto since 2014 but was late to NFTs, finding his passion for digital art and DAOs in ’21. He values on-chain art over anything else and loves Terraforms, Chaos Roads and early inscription ordinals. Blutoshi was a writer for The Rug within the Bankless DAO in '21/;22 and started following Nouns culture around this time.

After listening and learning from Andreas, Erik Voorhees and Trace Mayer and others for so many years, in 2023 @Blutoshi decided it was time to do his own research and show with his childhood friend Disco. Decentral Lens was born. Like his father, Blutoshi is a curler and has been curling for over a decade and will oversee the flawless execution of the entire promotion, sharing images and feedback to the Nouns community all along the way.

Timeline

The Curling season starts in mid October and runs through the end of April. While we have plenty of time to make all banners in the next 6 weeks, the in-ice house asset does need to be created in the next two to three weeks before we start freezing the ice with the 12’ banner underneath it.
