This proposal adds a new head trait: Shrimp Tempura

Tempura is renowned as one of Japan’s top three popular dishes, alongside sushi and ramen, and has gained wide recognition internationally. Among tempura varieties, shrimp tempura reigns supreme. The iconic shape and cultural significance of shrimp tempura make it an ideal candidate for inclusion in the Nouns collection.

Adding “shrimp tempura” to our noun-based digital asset collection offers the following advantages:

1. Enhanced cultural diversity: Introducing an iconic Japanese dish broadens the cultural expression of our Nouns collection.
2. Increased engagement: A highly recognizable item can stimulate more active community interaction.
3. Expanded creative possibilities: It serves as inspiration for new themes and collaborations.
4. Promotion of interest in Japanese culture: Adding shrimp tempura can spark interest in various aspects of Japanese culture, fostering cultural dialogue within the community.

The addition of shrimp tempura will enrich the collection’s diversity and appeal to both food enthusiasts and cultural aficionados. At the same time, shrimp tempura will transcend its role as a mere food item, becoming a valuable element that promotes interest in and understanding of Japanese culture as a whole.

Design Process:

The evolution of our shrimp tempura design was a journey of refinement and collaboration. What began as a simple fried shrimp concept transformed into an iconic tempura representation through iterative design. This transformation was not accidental but a natural progression, influenced by the popularity of tempura as one of Japan’s signature dishes alongside sushi and ramen.

Our design underwent three major iterations:

• v1: Head reversal and rotation
• v2: Overall shape refinement
• v3: Mouth redesign

Key contributions to the final design:

• The distinctive tempura shape was conceived with valuable guidance from Goldy-san.
• The process of improving the mouth design was initiated by Tummlin-san’s suggestion. Subsequently, a natural-looking mouth design proposed by Krel-san was adopted, leading to the final design.

This collaborative process, drawing on collective memories and expertise, resulted in a design that authentically represents shrimp tempura while fitting seamlessly into our Nouns collection.

• Simplicity Over Detail, It avoids excessive focus on details, shadows, and textures, keeping the design clean and straightforward.
• The design is scalable and functions effectively as a Profile Picture (PFP).
• Design elements do not invade the body preventing conflicts with accessories. (△)
• It maintains a recognisable silhouette.
• It aligns with the Noun’s values and has a universal meaning.
• It represents the entire element, not just portions or specific details.
• The design is built around the glasses rather than merely overlaying them.
• The official color palette is used, and the number of colours in the design is limited to ensure consistency and simplicity.
