What?* Nouns funds three teams for three-month sprints @ $50k each to build alternative communication clients for Nouns using the Farcaster protocol* Why? Nouns has yet to make meaningful leaps in how information is surfaced across the ecosystem. This round aims to solve for that using a promising social technology being built in a community that complements Nouns, Farcaster.*

Communication

Nouns has grown far and wide into various subgroups, including gaming, creatives, devs, and charity that each live in different pockets of the internet. Information across these different silos rarely flows in a productive manner so that the ecosystem can be exposed to any one particular matter. While our current pipelines are diverse (Twitter, Discord, Warpcast), none meet the needs of our ecosystem. As an ever evolving internet-native community, we should aim to improve our infrastructure to expand what is possible within Nouns.

Current alternatives

Nouns has three main communication channels: Twitter, Discord and Farcaster. They all lack the right mix of features, integrations and UX to properly surface relevant information for the Nouns ecosystem to make productive use of. Each fall short, to varying degrees, on key characteristics including:

Ephemerality: none work well for any nounsfolks that aren’t “there when it happened”. At most, any one item will last ~48 hours via retweets.

Noise: some channels are far too noisy to allow for Nouns related content to grow into prominence (eg Nouns media sitting next to almost hypnotic clickbait on Twitter)

Integrations: Warpcast does best when tying into crypto-native social but is too general in scope to integrate deeper into Nouns-native social.

Scope:

Mandate

The mandate would be Nouns Communication Clients. Any proposal to work on a client that improves Nouns ecosystem communication in a meaningful way is welcome to propose.

Requirements

• Build a stand-alone client for Nouns to surface information better
• Commit to a three month sprint
• Must be mobile friendly (extra points if mobile native)
• Must build using Farcaster as the underlying layer
• Must release work as open source

Awards First, second and third place will each receive the equivalent of ~$50k USD in ETH

Logistics

• The round will be hosted in the Nouns House
• Three weeks proposal time
• One week for voting by Nouns voters

Support The fine folks over in the Farcaster Devs channel will be happy to lend a hand along with the support of the Nouns community.

Potential directions

• Reddit-like client that deeply integrates with Nouns socials to surface relevant items within the Nouns ecosystem.
• Warpcast-like client with a focus on the algorithm that is used to curate what is displayed as the most relevant item for Nouns at any given time.
