Prop Summary

NNS Labs is focused on the development of nounish products to make the nouniverse more connected, empower its communities and proliferate ⌐◨-◨ .

Despite a very challenging year, the NNS placed itself as the third biggest nounish project for number of holders and generated $190k organically from mints. This funded our operations for an additional 8 months beyond the 5 of our last mandate.

Our plan for 2024 is to upgrade the Nouns Name Service into an open protocol, sharing 95% of minting revenue with the nouniverse, and to expand NOGS use cases with new products and powerful partnerships.

Here’s what we’ll bring home with this new mandate:

• NNS Ecosystem Rewards: Sharing 60% of every mint to users, communities and projects who resolve NNS.
• NNS Referral Rewards: Opening NNS minting to projects and communities with a 35% reward directly sent to their treasury.
• Community Level Domains: Releasing a new concept of TLD, powered by NNS and controlled by communities.
• Partnership #1 - NOGS goes IRL: The first nounish physical debit card will be available for pre order in January, free of charge.
• NNS as a Proliferation Gift: Making NNS an open proliferation tool to onboard new users in the nouniverse by burning NOGS.

What we’ve done so far:

Our main product, NNS, currently counts 1592 names and 702 holders, placing itself as the 3rd nounish project for number of holders after Lils (~2270) and Gnars (~710).

An open and shared NNS

This past year has been exciting, but we realized that the centralized approach was limiting the NNS potential.

With the new upgrade, 95% of revenue from .⌐◨-◨ names will be shared across the core actors of the protocol and 5% will be kept by NNS Labs as protocol rewards.

Ex: If the protocol generates 100 ETH from minting, 95 ETH will be distributed across the ecosystem and 5 ETH will be kept by the protocol as fees.

Thanks to features like Referral Rewards and products like Community Level Domains, NNS can greatly expand its reach through an expansive revenue model that will also give back to Nouns and other communities through multiple sources.

Ecosystem Rewards (60%)

60% of minting price will be shared between:

• All the communities and projects that resolve NNS names (30%) When a platform resolves NNS, it becomes an environment of nounish proliferation. Builders and communities will be able to generate a new stream of rewards thanks to their support and will allow NNS to organically grow its network of platforms. Rewards will be granted for onchain activity, seniority in the network, user activity and more.

This system has been designed to give communities rewards that are proportional to their activity. This means that bigger communities like Nouns, Lils, Gnars or PH can get bigger rewards, while all the other communities will still get their proportional rewards.

• Active NNS users who proliferate their .⌐◨-◨ onchain (30%) A .⌐◨-◨ is not just a domain, but a way to leave a nounish mark with every onchain action. Users will receive ETH rewards by bidding on auctions, making props and so on. Basically, for being nounish.

Note: Users won’t have to choose between ENS and NNS because they are both perfectly compatible as your primary addresses. You can see some examples in the picture below.

Referral Rewards (35%)

We’re opening the minting system of the NNS to nounish communities and other projects. They will be able to effortlessly integrate the mint of an NNS directly on their platform, thanks to fully functional minting tools provided by us.

Projects will be free to create alternative clients and minting experiences around NNS, getting 35% as referral reward for every .⌐◨-◨ minted (from $35 to $350 in ETH based on the NNS tier that gets minted).

Community Level Domains

Community Level Domains (CLDs) are TLDs powered by NNS but controlled by communities.

Thanks to CLDs, every community will be able to create its own TLD (imagine .lils, .gnars, .tns) with just a few clicks, thanks to the NNS infrastructure.

Any CLD will also be natively resolved across the NNS network from day 1. This is particulary important and it means that in the future, NNS can be a nounish protocol that allows even the smallest community to rely on a global network of resolvers like the biggest players.

.nouns will be the first experiment of CLD.

The DAO will decide the minting and the renewal price, and will also choose the referral reward. The .nouns mint can be tied to having a Noun or kept open, this is all in the DAO’s hands.

Every time a .nouns gets minted:

• 90% of revenue will go to Nouns treasury
• 7.5% will support the entire ecosystem as part of the Ecosystem Rewards
• 2.5% will go to the NNS as protocol rewards

Example of inflow with the .nouns set with the following structure:

• .nouns exclusive for Nouns holders
• 2 names mintable for every Noun (ex: noun number + name)
• 0.05 ETH mint + 0.05 ETH yearly renewal

If every Nouner mints their allowance of 2 names, the CLD would generate 100 ETH every year, forever compounded. Of these, 90 ETH will go straight to the DAO treasury, 7.5 ETH will be shared in the ecosystem and 2.5 ETH will go to NNS Labs.

A CLD can be a powerful and extremely flexible tool for the communities that will choose to use it.

Every CLD will develop its own utility, dynamics and culture.

The possibilities are unlimited, and since the NNS takes care of the entire infrastructure, all the communities have to do is decide if and how to use their CLD.

NOGS: a social token for being nounish

Fractional ownership of nounishness

Noggles (NOGS) is an experimental approach to an open token that rewards specific actions within the nouniverse.

NOGS has no price, no Liquidity Pool, no exchange.

It will be the first example of a token adopted because it’s fun and filled with nounish utilities, not because of a quick economic gain.

NOGS is a social token that rewards your governance activity, the proliferation of the meme and anything else that shows how nounish you are. So the only way to get NOGS is by being your nounish self.

To this date, we rewarded the activity of 320 users with more than 1600 transactions.

NOGS near future is decentralized, with the entire nouniverse that will be able to vote on new experiments and integrated with other cool projects and partnerships, so that NOGS can be used in games, for tipping and even for bidding in auctions on selected projects.

NOGS goes IRL: Nounish Card

In an effort to push the boundaries of global proliferation, we partnered with Bankless Card to launch the first nounish card powered by NOGS.

With the Nounish Card every swipe becomes an act of proliferation. This means that every swipe will also generate NOGS that will automatically onboard the user in the nounish economy.

Pre orders of the first batch of cards reserved for US users will start within the end of January, free of charge.

US is the first of the many countries that will be unlocked during the year.

Current Status: The BC team is currently waiting for the final confirmation from the card provider and they should get the first physical cards for approval within 7-10 days.

NNS as a Proliferation Gift

We are exploring the possibility to burn your NOGS into specific nounish goods or nounish NFTs, starting from NNS.

The concept is very similar to what Gami did for Bob Burnquist, but contrary to what Gami had to do you can simply burn some of your NOGS and get a redemption token that you can gift to anyone.

You can literally use your nounish activity to bring new people into the nouniverse.

Requested funding:

We are asking for:

• A payment stream of $33k per month for 6 months that will cover the operations of the core team and our monthly initiatives
• $45k that will give us more flexibility to organise the on demand tasks

This amount can be broken down as follows:

• $13k per person (2) per month for the core team
• $45k for design, an additional dev and help with the community (we will keep these tasks on demand to keep a light and flexible structure)
• $7k per month for marketing initiatives to support NNS releases and NOGS partnerships

Total: $243k
