Summary

We (the Endaoment core contributors) propose a 120 ETH stream (1.44% of the Treasury) over 10 years (12 ETH/Year) from the Nouns Treasury to fund Endaoment’s Universal Impact Pool (UIP).

The UIP is a Quadratic Funding (QF) Pool created in collaboration between Endaoment and Gitcoin’s Allo Protocol. It uses QF to match every donation made to real-world nonprofits onchain.

Opening a stream donation as proposed would ensure that over the years ahead, the Nouns community would be continuously mobilizing the Treasury to fund nonprofits around the world, as influenced by open donations through quadratic funding.

Granting to the UIP is an opportunity to put a modest 1.44% (over 10 years) of the current Treasury towards making the world a better place, while encouraging those in the broader Nouns community to donate themselves in order to influence and increase the impact by giving to organizations in their local communities.

This proposal connects the core of this DAO’s values with real world impact, through a long-term fundraising commitment that will affect thousands, potentially millions of nonprofits around the globe over the coming decade.

Endaoment has facilitated over $59 million in impact natively onchain to date, and we’d love to partner with the Nouns Collective to help encourage, incentivize and promote deep impact through the UIP this Giving Season.

Logistics

The UIP has already been funded thanks to independent donors and the GTC Treasury with $200,000. Approx $80,000 has been granted out over the last 2 quarters. You can see a full record of what has been donated/granted on our UIP page.

Should the Nouns DAO at any time seek to adjust the contribution across the time period, a proposal would be submitted to amend the streaming commitment.

Impact

Having a larger UIP means we can incentivize more participation and donation to the global ecosystem of nonprofits- also opening up ‘voting’—or “Vonating” as some have coined—through donations for smaller dollar amounts since deploying on Optimism and Base.

Every compliant U.S. 501©(3) and a growing base of global nonprofits in good standing (over 1.8 million) can receive donations via onchain transactions on mainnet and these L2s, as well as card and stock gifts.

Every donation is transacted onchain for transparency, and thus used for calculation in the distribution of the pool, enabling the public at large to participate in decentralized finance and the matching algorithm. Sybil defenses have been considered in the activation of the UIP and we can explain our approach further in the discussion.

A contribution from the Nouns Collective will not only support a diverse range of charities but also align with Nouns’ commitment to public goods and decentralized community action.
