MoonDAO

Abstract

This project is a continuation of the work that was done on Citizens and Teams in Q1 and Q2 of 2024. Citizens and Teams are the foundation of the DAO network we’re building, coordinated by our governance and incentives. This proposal is another step on our roadmap towards scaling MoonDAO, polishing the work we’ve done so far on Citizens and Teams and supporting the follow-through with bringing the ten wonderful companies, nonprofits, and startups that are seeding this network alongside the individuals we’ve invited to be our first MoonDAO Citizens. Beyond follow-through, this project will also hire one more developer, and set the foundation for the implementation of the first DePrize that will heavily use the Teams framework.

Problem

MoonDAO requires a business model to sustain itself long-term. Citizens and Teams are a core service for MoonDAO to create a steady and recurring revenue stream to grow our treasury. Offered as a subscription service for individuals and teams, it connects people to a network where they can get their projects funded by the MoonDAO community, buy and sell things on the MoonDAO marketplace (where MoonDAO takes a 1% fee), and can hire (or get hired) from the MoonDAO community.

Furthermore, it improves the on-boarding experience within MoonDAO drastically, getting more people in the door and reinforce the network effects to make MoonDAO the #1 place in the world for an entrepreneur, dreamer, or enthusiast to get started on their journey to support a lunar economy. Lastly, it sets us up for the flagship DePrize that will be built on the foundation of Citizens and Teams.

We have done a lot of work to build a network of 10 organizations to seed the MoonDAO network with many citizens that are onboarding our private beta on a rolling basis. This project funds the continued development of the project to support those individuals as they onboard, fix bugs quickly, and follow-through with some much needed features to continue improving the system.

Solution

Some high-level plans that we mean to integrate by the end of the quarter are:

• Better Payments: Integrating a new payment method that allows someone to “check-out” with a credit card. Our current solution requires creating an account on MoonPay, a process that is cumbersome and not open to most people around the world. Instead, we’d like the process to look like buying anything else online, even if you’ve never had a wallet before.
• Public Application Launch: Allow people to “apply” for someone to join our private beta for Citizens and Teams. We’re rolling this out on an “invite-only” basis right now, but we’d like to have this live on the main MoonDAO website for people to demonstrate interest and start thoughtfully adding more individuals into the network.
• Marketplace Features: Adding more functionality to the marketplace to allow anyone to browse multiple listings, and improve the marketplace to be easily compatible with existing sales channels like Shopify.
• Expand the Team: Part of this project will be hiring and training a new smart contract developer to help long-term at MoonDAO.
• White-Glove Onboarding: We want to focus on the end-user and have them drive development by being as close to them as possible as they’re using the system. We want to be with them from beginning to end, listen to their pain-points and continuously solve the problems they’re facing in real-time. Fixing bugs in hours v.s. days.
• DePrize: Formalize the plan for the DePrize framework and set the stage for the flagship DePrize built on the Teams framework.
• Polish and Bug Fixing: This project will also fund the countless “unknown-unknowns” that we will encounter as we continue development and fixing things day-to-day. Within scope of this project will also be to continue improving the MoonDAO App, especially the governance features and making sure those work nicely with the Citizens and Teams framework.
• Deeper Nance Integration: This proposal will also focus on improving the nance automations and make them seamless to use from the Citizen and Team user interface.

Benefits

• Stable, recurring revenue for the DAO.
• Better onboarding for individual Citizens, with a better UI to interact with the DAO.
• Better onboarding for companies, using the Teams system UI to interact with the DAO.
• Creates a foundation for the DePrize, a cornerstone of our roadmap.
• Better integration of Citizens and Teams with the Nance governance automation.

Risks

As with any proposal, there are risks of timelines getting extended, and work not being implemented as written here. The team on this proposal consists of people that have successfully implemented multiple proposals at MoonDAO.

Objectives

Objective #1: Improve the Citizen and Teams system based on feedback from the beta users. Key Results for Objective #1:

• Improve the payments system so someone can become a Citizen or Team with a credit card, with no account creation required.
• Improve the marketplace to integrate directly with existing sales channels and create a unified UI where all marketplace listings can be viewed.
• White-Glove Onboarding of each of the teams, listening closely to their pain-points and fixing bugs within 24 hours.
• Deeper Nance integration and polish of our governance systems.
• Polish and bug fixing on a daily basis, constantly iterating and improving on the current system.
