Introduction

WeaveVM is a hyper scalable storage and data availability (DA) network designed to solve the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) storage bottleneck and address the inefficiencies of slow, expensive temporary DA. As a high-performance parallel EVM network, WeaveVM is engineered to maximise scalability and transparency for Layer 1 (L1) and Layer 2 (L2) blockchains, as well as data-intensive decentralised applications (dApps). Key performance metrics include a capacity of 1 gigagas per second, 47,000 transactions per second (TPS), parallel execution, and a throughput of over 125MB/s.

WeaveVM offloads storage to Arweave, enabling any chain to integrate a permanent storage layer powered by a hyper scalable network of EVM nodes with MegaETH-grade throughput.

About the Team

WeaveVM is developed by Decent Land Labs, a project founded in 2019 with the mission of making Arweave storage accessible to all blockchain infrastructures. The team consists of members with experience at leading organisations, including Poloniex, Community Labs, Forward Research, Supabase, and contributors to Paradigm’s Reth core codebase.

Overview

WeaveVM is addressing the challenges of data availability and storage scalability. We are seeking approval and co-marketing support from Metis to promote WeaveVM’s integration with Metis, focusing on its potential to enhance the Metis ecosystem via integration with the WeaveVM Archiver.

Accomplishments

• Funding: WeaveVM raised $3 million, supported by investors such as Longhash, LD Capital, Foresight Ventures, and Arweave.
• EVM precompiles and data pipeline for permanent storage: WeaveVM is unique in that it has native bidirectional communication with Arweave, a permanent storage chain. With WeaveVM, chains and dApps can read and write to Arweave from the smart contract layer and bypass the limitations of EVM storage.
• Public testnet: Testnet has launched, with the mainnet launch expected in early 2025. Additionally, we offer an ecosystem grant to support testnet builders and encourage innovation on our platform.

About WeaveVM Archiver

The WeaveVM Archiver is an ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) archive pipeline specifically designed for EVM networks. It offers the simplest way to interface with WeaveVM’s permanent data feature without rollup smart contract redeployments or sequencer changes.

By integrating the WeaveVM Archiver, developers can leverage WeaveVM’s permanent data storage without changes to the core architecture.

Why WeaveVM Archiver

1. A straightforward interface to WeaveVM’s permanent data feature, eliminating the need for disruptive smart contract redeployments or changes to sequencers.
2. Continue using Metis’ current architecture for data settlement and DA, reducing the need for extensive codebase modifications while benefiting from enhanced data availability.
3. Data is permanently archived and accessible. WeaveVM acts as a permanent, incentivized archival node that can be used for new network participants as a checkpoint.

Proposal for Co-Marketing Collaboration

To maximise the impact of WeaveVM and its Archiver feature, we propose a co-marketing collaboration with Metis. This would involve:

WeaveVM has deployed a permanent archiver for Metis data, acting as a decentralised archival node by pushing chain data to Arweave. This requires no changes in Metis architecture. WeaveVM is seeking a co-marketing collaboration with Metis to show how it can be used to ensure long-term storage of on-chain data, and how Metis’ decentralisation has improved as a result. By partnering with Metis, we can together promote a platform that aligns with the values of decentralisation, scalability, and cost-effectiveness, ultimately benefiting developers and users across the ecosystem.
