Nounish Small Brand Eyewear x Independent NYC Coffee Shops
An experiment in Nounish retail with two, eight-unit sunglasses displays, each placed in an owner-managed independent coffee shop in lower Manhattan.
Custom wooden displays will be purchased with the unicode glasses logo engraved top center and “Independent eyewear for the public good” top left. “Powered by Nouns & Lil Nouns!” will be engraved top right, and the “nouns.wtf” and “lilnouns.wtf” websites will be engraved bottom left and right.
The displays will feature high quality sunglasses purchased at wholesale from popular emerging brands like Quay (California), Le Specs (Australia), Izipizi (France), Komono (Belgium), Randolph (Massachusetts), and Chimi (Sweden) – brands that are independent of the Sunglass Hut/Luxottica monopoly, a conglomerate that crafts the illusion of variety while raising prices and lowering quality.
As an experiment in small-scale, NYC-based Nounish retail, I will establish relationships with two independent coffee shop owners to host consignment-based sunglasses displays for the public good. Any sales will be transparently shared in a public airtable. Revenues will be collected by the shop owners and can be split with the DAO to cover the cost of goods.
The coffee shop owner may decide to maintain or abandon operation depending on sales, but no matter the results, the two Nounish displays will serve as marketing installations for the DAO at two highly foot-trafficked NYC coffee shops. If sales are meaningful, the inventory can be replenished and expansion to more coffee shops becomes possible.
.33 ETH will purchase two custom displays (~$200) and 16 units of eyewear (~$600).
