What is Prop Lot?

Prop Lot is a token weighted bulletin board for ideas. It launched a few weeks ago as an experimental approach to activating members, by giving them a place to post ideas and receive feedback in the form of up/down votes from other members.

Why we built it

Lil Nouns onboards new members fast. For them to start contributing and engaging with the DAOs activities is not always easy. Coordination tools like Discord can get hectic, with Ideas getting lost in threads, discussions losing momentum and cognitive overload discouraging new members from becoming active ones. To solve this, we built Prop Lot. Instead of starting a thread in Discord to share your idea, you can simply submit it to Prop Lot using your Lil Noun. Members can then upvote or downvote your idea based on the number of Lil Nouns they hold. The ideas most favoured by the DAO will rise to the top.

Reflections from our MVP

With 50 submissions, 120 comments and 100s of votes placed on Prop Lot already, it’s clear to see how eager Lil Nouners are to contribute. Having the infrastructure to capture those contributions meant that no contribution was lost, allowing them all to receive a more accurate consensus of how the community felt. Some submissions progressed from a suggestion to an on-chain proposal. Key takeaways from our MVP:

• Ideas progress faster. Because support is highly visible (vote count), ideas that have potential move forward much faster.
• Activation energy to contribute is lower. Because of the simple workflow (token -> form -> list), ideas are effortlessly thrown onto Prop Lot by any member. As opposed to having to figure out how a community uses Discord, catching up on discussions, starting a thread, etc.

Prop Lot 2.0

With this proposal, we will focus on developing Prop Lot into the main node of contribution and coordination in Lil Nouns. This involves updating the UX to enable the progression from idea to active contribution with features like:

• Profile pages to track contributions, showcase skills and Karma style points
• Notifications of activity around ideas
• New ways of sorting, archiving, tagging and tracking ideas

Prop Lot 2.0 will help Lil Nouners unlock opportunities

The Noun ecosystem champions builders. We want to encourage participation by not only making it trustless, but by helping make the sum of those contributions mean something tangible. Prop Lot does this by tracking a Lil Nouner’s contributions and awarding them Karma style points for those contributions. This will act like an on-chain resume which they can then use as a show of credibility for bigger opportunities.

Help Lil Nouns DAO achieve its mission

Lil Nouns aims to expose the world to all things Nounish. Doing that successfully requires us to recreate the magic of Nouns for our ‘layer’ in the ecosystem. As a governance layer, Nouns’ magic is predicated on permissionless coordination around a mission. As a participation layer, I believe Lil Nouns’ magic will be underpinned by the ability to trustlessly participate in the activities of a mission. Conceptually, that is exactly what Prop Lot allows: trustless participation for anyone with a Lil Noun, by reducing their dependency on tools like Discord and Discourse.

And unlock the DAO’s social capital

If successful, Prop Lot will go beyond enabling contributions and give us a better way of coordinating. In doing so, the DAO will be able to unleash the power of its social capital: all the eager Lil Nouners who are full of ideas and skills, but lack the platform to showcase them. By simply pushing new members to Prop Lot instead of Discord, we will be able to engage them in Nounish activities as soon as they join, making Prop Lot the first step to becoming Nounish.

Funds Requested

This proposal requests 49 ETH working capital for 3 months of operations.

Deliverables

We’ll release the features in phases during the 3 months. Ideally, by the end Prop Lot would cater to all of our needs to coordinate around our mission, which may include the ability to find collaborators and form teams.
