What development proposals should DOPE DAO prioritize in 2023?

NOTE: This poll is not binding, and not about committing specific funds to any one initiative.

We would like to gauge interest in potential developments from our community going into 2023. It contains estimates of possible spend for illustration purposes only. Final numbers are subject to additional votes and debate before proceeding.

To provide value to the DOPE DAO and its members, some of us have come up with proposals they’d like to see funded to move the mission of DOPE WARS forward. To ensure the DAO is moving forward in a way that benefits all members, we’d like to gauge how we should prioritize this work in 2023 to ensure we’re working on the things that will bring new interest and liquidity into the DOPE ecosystem.

As a DAO, we will have to be selective in what we choose to fund, when they happen, and the payment structure we choose as compensation.

At the time of this writing the DOPE DAO has 57.46 ETH, 505M PAPER, and 150K OP tokens spread across treasuries on Mainnet and Optimism available for spending on development to improve the DOPE ecosystem.

Developers will most likely want to be compensated in only ETH and OP, as those are the most liquid tokens available for turning into USD and paying their bills. Given this reality, we only have about $219.86K to spend for development purposes before the DAO must raise more money in the form of another NFT mint, or recurring revenue from NFT sales and other avenues.

OP Grant Initiative

Our community stepped up to the plate and secured a 300K OP grant to incentivize game play and fund development of future DOPE WARS experiences. In the proposal, our DAO agreed to spend the funds in the following ways.

Current Spend

The only thing the DAO has committed to fund ongoing is hosting of Dopewars.gg and the associated costs of Google Cloud Platform. In Q4 2022, those costs were nearly 4 ETH.

To ensure the ongoing hosting of Dopewars.gg we must allocate roughly 16 ETH for the rest of 2023 to ensure the site stays live.

Future Development Initiatives

The table below outlines initiatives that have been floated by the community as ideas we could move forward with to improve the DOPE DAO ecosystem. Because we have limited funds and limited dev resources it’s unclear at the moment if we can fund all of them to completion.

Taking into account that we only have $219.86K in ETH and OP to spend, we must be selective about what we finance and in what sequence we do it.

Continue hosting DopeWars.gg

Summary

• Pay for hosting and maintenance costs to keep the site at DopeWars.gg up and running that hosts the About page, Hustler Initiator, Swap Meet, and MMO.

Impact

• DopeWars.gg is the hub for all things Dope Wars. If it goes away we’re not sure where else people would interact with our assets.

• None

Stabilize and Launch MMO Beta

Summary

• To date, we’ve spent 50+ ETH on the development of an immersive virtual world that is intended to be the launchpad for all other DOPE WARS experiences and games.
• The code we have needs some refinement before the experience is able to be hosted continually without issues.

Impact

• We believe the immersive MMO will become the social hub for Hustlers, and will demonstrate to community members and outsiders the value of having a Hustler.
• Being able to experience this world will drive demand for other experiences based on DOPE WARS art and music, and lays the foundation for future mints.

Launch Swap Meet v2

Summary

• Swap Meet v2 will upgrade Dopewars.gg to allow for transactions in ETH, PAPER, and OP right from the website to purchase DOPE WARS NFT assets.

Impact

• DAO will capture revenue in the form of royalties on all NFT items sold, directly into our treasury without having to wait for payouts on OpenSea.
• Players have less chance to be rugged by purchasing assets that are already Claimed on other marketplaces that don’t have enough information about DOPE ASSETS

Fund Turf Apartment Builder

Summary

• DOPE WARS Apartment Builder is a housing game-tool built on Optimism that would enable apartments to be built in the DOPE WARS Metaverse.
• Apartments would be filled with default furnitures and there would be the option to acquire new furnitures in various ways (see Description) to customize the apartment in the Web3 space.

Impact

• Hustlers can build areas of the MMO that they can own in the future

Revenue

• None until the TURF mint

Launch PRS (Paper Rock Scissors)

Summary

• PRS is a game of skill created in partnership with Tableland to demonstrate how scores can be stored in a decentralized manner, then composed with other games to give DOPE WARS assets value based on gameplay
• We need to work out the tokenomics of this game to ensure we’re doing all we can to avoid gaming law scrutiny
• Front-end work needs to be completed to host this game

Impact

• Hustlers have a game they can play using DOPE WARS Hustlers and PAPER

Revenue

• % of all entry fees goes back to the DAO
• Potentially % of LP providing through contract could go back to the DAO

Launch Dope Bot on GCP

Summary

• The Dope Bot is a custom Discord bot that provides information, authentication verification, and NFT sales information to the community Discord. It’s currently hosted on Bort’s computer and needs a final push to be placed live on external hosting.

Impact

• Discord continues to receive up-to-date and on-demand information about NFT assets in a reliable manner.

• None

Add Dope MMO Quests

Summary

• DIP-41 hired hir0 to design quests for our DOPE MMO. The storylines are ready to go and need to be coded into the MMO so players can interact with them.
• No coding has been completed to bring these quests to life.
• Further exploration needs to be done, and a proper proposal put in place after the MMO is up and running to understand the effort needed to make this happen.

Impact

• NFT items can be won by Hustlers for completing quests
• Our MMO becomes more immersive and sticky, beginning to create our gameplay loop that will engage players over the long run

Revenue

• None planned yet

TURF Mint + Drop

Summary

• TURF is the idea of NFT land ownership or rental in the DOPE MMO space.
• Ownership of TURF would impact gameplay in DOPE WARS game experiences.
• We have not come to an agreement about how TURF would work, or what tokenomics will work best with our community in the current market.

• Our best chance to generate revenue and excitement about future Dope Wars experiences
• Our opportunity to phase out DOPE NFTs if we’d like

Fund exploration of a fighting game from Mr Fax and SohoJoe

Summary

• Mr Fax would like to develop a fighting game set in the Dope Wars universe. Its gameplay will be fighting battles 1 vs. 1, inspired on games like “UrbanChampion”, “Street Fighter” & “Mortal Kombat”.
• We want to create a fun, simple, playable game that Hustlers can interact with

Impact

• A playable game that people can interact with using DOPE WARS assets

Revenue

• None planned

Fund exploration of a 3d game from 187.ape
