DIP-68 Better Keep Saul on the Hook.
Dear DOPE DAO.
We made great progress after getting some solid legal advice from Thomas Plunkett. It allowed us to charge forward on a number of fronts. This kind of legal exploration is a necessary part of DEVELOPMENT for DOPE DAO. I suggest that now will be a wise time to utilise some of those development funds to secure the good lawyer on a retainer. The retainer will secure hours of work at an agreed rate. We will 100% need legal counsel in the future. Let’s plan ahead while we have capital.
I propose that we place Thomas Plunkett on a 20k USD retainer payable in OP.
Payment would be executed and then held by the lawyer as is practice under a retainer agreement that I can organise. I propose that legal issues can be raised and vetted by the PROTOCOL Core Unit Member acting as the Legal Engineer. (The PROTOCOL Core Unit position will be part of a current proposal “DOPELABS’ that is underway). In effect, until we have it established I can utilise my experience of DOPEWARS positions and Web3 Legal terrain so that issues can then be triaged and advice requested in the most efficient and cost effective manner.
20k USD is the same amount that was spent to get the previous legal advice that allowed for the Registration Opinion, Treasury Management (including the recent Arrakis Liquidity development) Opinion, Gaming Legal Opinion and the Contractor Agreement that the DAO now possesses. I believe this would be a excellent use of our development funds to ensure that we can continue to develop the DopeWars ecosystem.
I can already foresee us needing counsel on upcoming issues like; creation and minting of future digital assets, intellectual property ownership issues that relate to provenance, potential trademark issues, the future of liquidity as well as all the unforeseen questions that will arise.
The frontline is everywhere, and in the case of the legal frontier, we are right up on that line.
For your consideration.
