DIP-79(b) DopeWars Mean Streets

Overview

DopeWars Frenzy has evolved past a simple Player vs Player game and will be rebranded to DopeWars Mean Streets.

This was created by team of developers from UnixLabs on a self-funded budget with no initial funding from DOPE DAO. The game was developed as a way to support the DopeWars ecosystem. The team collaborated with a game studio (UnixLabs) and designed an engaging single-player game where players could destroy parts of the city to gain points. However, the team soon realized that the game lacked the engagement needed to bring users together, so they incorporated a battle-royale style event where players could compete against each other for points.

The Beta received plenty of feedback and from that there has been further evolution;

the following are subject to discovery

Version release;

  • Web2 release on platforms such as Steam to capture traditional gamers. This will be without any NFT integration.
  • Web3 release with NFT integration to our assets such as, Hustlers, L2 Items, Paper, Dope Name Service. This will give in-game benefits to players based on their loadout. The use of the OP User Incentive tokens can be used to facilitate winnings, tournaments and other events.

Game modes;

  • Story mode will provide a quest line of missions to run throughout DopeCity.
  • Frenzy mode is an open world to gain as many points as possible before time runs out or your get wasted by the police
  • PvP mode is to play against other players in a death match or team death match. In-game objectives to facilitate player engagement.

Game Features;

  • Players will be able to roam DopeCity.
  • Players will see a general HUD to provide information.
  • Players can run or short bursts of sprints.
  • Players can use vehicles and weapons (projectile or melee) against other players.
  • Players can use In-game chat.
  • Players can destroy parts of DopeCity.
  • Players can listen to the in-game music player.
  • Players can use the PvP lobby system to join games.

Components & Responsibilities

The following are new additions;

Break Glass in Emergency Clause

Preamble:

(a)   The collaboration between the team (UnixLabs) and DOPE DAO is based upon a foundation of good faith partnership. Each party will commit to act reasonably to create a working environment that promotes successful collaboration and mutual benefit.

(b)   DOPE DAO is willing to invest into the ‘DopeWars Mean Streets’ project.

INVESTMENT and CODE development:

The team (UnixLabs)  shall remain in control of the code that pertains to the ‘DopeWars Mean Streets’ project, unless the Trigger Event occurs, following which DOPE DAO chooses to execute an Option. Upon receipt of investments from DOPE DAO, the team shall continue development of the project.

Trigger Events means circumstances in which:

The team (UnixLabs) is unable to continue the development of the project for more that 6 consecutive months; or

The team (UnixLabs) is unwilling to continue the development of the project and does not notify DOPE DAO accordingly.

In the event that a Trigger Event occurs, DOPE DAO shall have the option to buy out the code pertaining to the project at a price equal to double the amount of funds spent on graphics and development, unless the parties agree upon other conditions through mutual consent.

The minimum buyout price of the code pertaining to the project, before any investments from DOPE DAO, is $150,000.

Graphics Advisor - HPMNK

HPMNK to lead in an advisory role to an art studio from UnixLabs and provide style guidance, tools and settings to allow them to produce required graphics. HPMNK will run review and quality control. This will be addressed in a separate proposal.

Budget

The budget total is $125k USD payable via the OP grant.

  1. 15k USD Reimbursement to Cyberbitz for the initial costs of the Frenzy Proof of Concept.
  2. 110k USD to UnixLabs for, but not limited to;
    1. Development of 3 game modes - Story mode, Frenzy mode and PvP mode.
    2. Development of any Smart contracts / NFT integrations required.
    3. Bug fixes and scaling as required.
    4. Distribution.

Milestones / Deliverables

Beta release will be for each version of the game. UnixLabs will develop these in a non linear state.

  • A Web2 version on selected platforms with the base game features such as a player HUD, weapons, vehicles, DopeCity and mechanics such as melee/projectile fighting, vehicle use, map destruction, player combat. Further rollout of the additional game modes and features as required.
  • A Web3 version via web with the base game features as a player HUD, weapons, vehicles, DopeCity and mechanics such as melee/projectile fighting, vehicle use, map destruction, player combat, Web3 integration such as wallet connect and in-game item benefits. Further rollout of the additional game modes and features as required.

Release 1.0

  • Final release of the Web2 version as 1.0 with required game features and mechanics and a monetization flow.
  • Final release of the Web3 version as 1.0 with required game features and mechanics and required Web3 integrations.

Progress Updates

Below are the formal update frequencies on project development;

  • Fortnightly updates will be provided and posted across our DopeWars platforms.
  • Monthly AMAs will be held to provide an open forum for the DAO.

Monetization / Revenue

The game will have multiple possibilities for monetization and revenue. UnixLabs has offered to increase the revenue returned to the DAO from 5% to 50%.

  • The Web2 release of the game will be available for purchase on platforms such as Steam. The initial price will be decided closer to the release of the product. There will also be an opportunity to release DLC items. Porting to other platforms such as mobile and consoles is also an opportunity.
  • The Web3 release of the game will be available via the web and have NFT integrations with DopeWars assets such as, L2 gear from Optimism, Hustlers, Dope Name Service and Paper. The trading of these items via secondary sales will provide the DAO with 5% royalties. Ability to set seasons that increase/decrease benefits of items to entice trading is an option.
