Are Polls a good way of drawing Community attention to a topic ?

One of the issues I see here, is that barely anyone is appraised of initiatives from anyone else, until the motions are actually started. And before most of us have a chance to form an idea on the subject at hand, the time to vote already draws near.
And I wonder just how many large VP holders don’t even know about the conversations and decisions which take place in this space !
I am hoping the results of this poll will bring some clarity in this domain.
