ARC(Core): Enhancing Autonolas Protocol Security
Summary
The Olas protocol utilizes a community-multisig (CM) and a guard mechanism (cf. GuardCM contract) to promptly address protocol security incidents, limiting the CM to specific reversible actions.
The AIP-3 assesses Autonolasโs DAO progressive security improvements and suggests further improvements to better manage emergency governance situations. This proposal specifically targets challenges in the existing GuardCM structure, aiming to enhance CM cross-chain governance actions and reduce time delays in CM actions. The key motivations behind this improvement proposal include:
- Addressing Cross-Chain Governance Challenges: While the current guard implementation ensures that on Ethereum, the CM can only take DAO-compliant reversible actions, challenges arise when extending CM ability to L2 (like Gnosis or Polygon) through governance bridges. The proposed new GuardCM implementation addresses these challenges, ensuring that CM actions remain restricted to specific reversible actions also on L2 networks.
- Optimizing Response Time: The existing Timelock mechanism, while ensuring security, introduces operational delays also for CM actions. This proposal introduces a solution to reduce CM-actions delays, enabling swift CM responses in urgent scenarios.
Proposal
This ARC serves as an initial step to gauge the communityโs sentiment and establish a preliminary consensus on the AIP-3 proposal. It includes an in-depth examination of the proposed specifications, available here. Subsequent on-chain votes will be conducted to finalize relevant aspects of the proposal.
