1inch Foundation is requesting a USD 300 000 equivalent in 1INCH tokens to cover the ETHGlobal Title-partner fee for Unite DeFi hackathon, the first global 1inch hackathon (online, 25 July – 6 August 2025): https://ethglobal.com/events/unite.

The goal of the hackathon is to accelerate innovation across the Ethereum ecosystem by engaging top global developers to build real solutions that enhance composability, expand cross-chain interoperability, and unlock seamless DeFi experiences for end users.

For 1inch, the hackathon serves as a strategic initiative to extend protocol adoption, generate high-impact integrations on new chains, surface fresh product ideas, and attract top developer talent to contribute to and build on the 1inch ecosystem.

Abstract

“Unite DeFi” brings the world’s best Web3 builders together to extend 1inch protocols and unlock seamless, chain-agnostic UX. ETHGlobal provides the proven infrastructure, community reach, and operations playbook; 1inch supplies prizes, mentorship, and technical challenges. Grant funds (300 k USD in 1INCH) will settle ETHGlobal’s Title-partner fee, securing full event production, marketing, and developer-success services.

Motivation

Back to the roots: 1inch itself was born at an ETHGlobal hackathon in 2019; sponsoring our own flagship hack is a powerful brand story.

Unblocking DeFi UX: Cross-chain complexity and fragmented tooling limit adoption. By crowd-solving these pain-points, we accelerate time-to-market for genuinely usable DeFi.

Ecosystem expansion: New integrations on non-EVM chains, fresh derivatives logic for the Limit-Order Protocol, and novel apps leveraging 1inch APIs will all drive volume, fees, and user growth.

Talent pipeline: ETHGlobal events historically attract >1 000 developers each; this is a direct channel for recruiting and grant follow-ups.

Event tracks & desired outcomes

TRACK 1 - 1inch Cross-chain Swap Fusion+) Extension to Non-EVM chain

Build a novel extension for 1inch Cross-chain Swap (Fusion+) that enables swaps between Ethereum and any of the following non-EVM chains: Sui, Aptos, Bitcoin/Bitcoin cash/Doge/Litecoin, Tron, Ton, Monad, Near, Starknet, Cardano, Stellar, XRP Ledger, ICP, Tezos, Polkadot, EOS, or Cosmos.

TRACK 2 - Expand Limit Order Protocol

1inch Limit Order Protocol is an onchain orderbook that can be extended to do much more. Build advanced strategies and hooks for the 1inch Limit Order Protocol like options, concentrated liquidity, and TWAP swaps.

TRACK 3 - Build a full Application using 1inch APIs

1inch offers a variety of REST APIs that make building onchain applications simpler. Create a full dApp using as many 1inch APIs as possible.

• Brand & mind-share: Title billing puts the new 1inch branding on every promotional asset, keynote, and workshop—reaching ETHGlobal’s 300k+ developer network.

• First-mover advantage: Being the anchor sponsor guarantees category ownership before competitors spin up similar challenges.

Considerations

Event management: ETHGlobal handles all coordination, logistics, platform, judging, and prize disbursement; the 1inch Foundation will supply mentors, judges and reviewers out of 1inch Network Core Contributors.

KPIs:

• ≥ 600 registered hackers

• ≥ 150 project submissions

• ≥ 6 successful non-EVM Fusion+ demos

• ≥ 10 new Limit-Order extensions

• ≥ 20 % of finalists progressing to incubation / grants

After the hackathon concludes, a comprehensive report will be delivered to the 1inch DAO. It will include key metrics such as total participant registrations, number of submissions per track, technical highlights of top projects, integration outcomes, and follow-up actions (e.g., grant offers, partnership discussions). A detailed breakdown of community engagement data, and media impact will also be provided to ensure full transparency and accountability of the grant usage.

Approval of this grant will let 1inch ignite a wave of developer activity that directly upgrades our product stack, deepens network effects, and cements our position as leader in DeFi. `
